About Epsilon-Phi

About Us and Rush
Kappa Sigma Fraternity was founded at the University of Bologna in Italy in 1400 and was founded in the U.S. on December 10, 1869 at the University of Virginia. Kappa Sigma is one of the ten largest fraternities with over 200,000 initiates. According to the 1997 Fraternity Executives Association survey, Kappa Sigma ranks fourth in size for college fraternities based on the number of chapters. Kappa Sigma also has the premier fraternity headquarters and training center with the International Memorial Headquarters in Charlottesville, Virginia.
The Epsilon Phi chapter at Texas Tech continues to follow the same high standards that were set at the founding of the Kappa Sigma Fraternity. The Texas Tech chapter consistently remains at the top throughout every rush. Not many other fraternities at Tech can honestly claim that honor. Furthermore, the Epsilon Phi chapter has the strongest alumni support on campus. Without the support of our alumni, this chapter would not exist.

Athletically, Kappa Sigma is clearly one of the dominate fraternities on the Texas Tech campus. Year after year, the brothers of Kappa Sigma find themselves in contention to be crowned champions of nearly every sport in competition. Kappa Sigma competes yearly in football, soccer, softball, basketball, golf, tennis, track and field, and indoor soccer.

Academically, Kappa Sigma takes a stern attitude. The view point this fraternity bases all its actions on is that, the main reason you are here is to get an education. Kappa Sigma simply fills in the gaps between classes. The Epsilon Phi chapter holds study halls and provides a wide range of academic resources for every member and pledge of Kappa Sigma. Furthermore, their is a minimum GPA requirement for initiation into the Kappa Sigma fraternity. We reward brothers who receive a 4.0 GPA with 500 dollars and 3.5 GPA with 250. Also there are two scolarships worth 250 dollars given to brothers each semester.

Socially, we don’t have to say a whole lot. The social calendar seems to speak for itself, semester after semester. The Kappa Sigma chapter is known for setting the standard in social life here on the Tech campus. Our social calendar utilizes a variety of party themes and once a year a Kappa Sigma Formal is put together for the brothers and pledges. Just wait until Margaritaville!

Kappa Sigma’s summer rush is one of the strongest at Texas Tech. Each summer we have rush parties all over the state which helps us and the rushees to get to know each other before rush starts. This is one of the best times to start getting involved in rush and gaining a head start in trying to get into Kappa Sigma.

Kappa Sigma is known throughout the Tech campus as one of the most dominant and widely accepted fraternities. We encourage anyone who is interested in finding out further information about the Texas Tech chapter of Kappa Sigma.
